Empire as an actor in the international system of the ancient Mediterranean and the Near East.

Abstract:

V této práci je nastíněna historie Mezopotámské oblasti. Je zde popsána tradice městských států, které se v určitých obdobích dokázaly přeměnit v centralizované státy. Právě to je předmětem celé mé práce, ve které je postupně popsán historický vývoj centrálních států Mezopotámie. V první části práce je zároveň popsána teorie Alexandra Motyla. Teorie impéria je založena především na struktuře státního útvaru a vztahu centra s periferními oblastmi. V celé historii se objevilo pouze pár aktérů, kteří dokázali ovládnout celou mezopotámskou nížinu. Prvním z těchto státních celků byla Akkadská říše. Ovšem nikdo nedokázal ovládat celou oblast déle než maximálně po dobu třech století. Nepovedlo se to ani takové mocnosti jakou byla bezpochyby Novoasyrská říše v poslední etapě historie Mezopotámie, před ovládnutím oblasti Peršany. Na všechny státní aktéry působilo mnoho faktorů, které ovlivnily délku jejich existence.

Abstract:

Within this thesis is outlined a history of Mesopotamian region. It describes the tradition of city-states that during certain periods of time could be transformed into a centralized states. Precisely this transformation is a subject of my thesis, which progressively describes the historic development of the central states of Mesopotamia. The fist part also describes an Alexander Motyl theory. The theory of empire is primarily based on the structure of state formation and the relationship between the center and its peripheral areas. Throughout the history, the here were only a few actors who could dominate the whole Mesopotamian plain.The first of these state units were Akkadian Empire, however no one was able to hold control of the entire area for longer than maximum of three centuries. Even such powers as the Neo-Assyrian Empire, in the last stage of Mesopotamia, could not prevent from taking over by the Persians. Many different factors affected all state actors, which in the end influenced the length of their existence.
