Roman era in the provinces. The Comparative Sociocultural Analysis of the Dying, Death, Burial Rites and Rituals.

Abstract:

Na římských územích se nacházejí socio-kulturní rozdíly v umírání, smrti, v pohřebních ritech a rituálech. Distinkce se objevují zejména ve vybavenosti hrobu, typu hrobu a na náhrobních stélách, jež vypovídají o zesnulé osobě. Jednotným aspektem pro celé impérium byl výskyt římských pohřebišť na podrobených územích, na kterých se praktikoval do druhého století žárový ritus, který následně nahradil na přelomu druhého a třetího století kosterní způsob uložení. O římských tradicích máme dobře dochované písemné a archeologické památky. U provinciálních praktikách vycházejí výzkumníci především z artefaktů nalezených na výkopových lokalitách, které se nacházejí okolo celého Středomoří, a ze spisů sepsanými římskými historiky. Pomocí těchto poznatků lze objasnit dobu římskou, pohled na smrt, způsoby a tradice v posmrtném uložení mezi různými skupinami v celé římské říši.

Abstract:

There are socio-cultural differences in dying, death, burial rites and rituals in Roman territories. The distinction is particularly evident in the furnishings of the grave, the type of grave, and the tombstones that tell the deceased. A single aspect for the whole empire was the occurrence of Roman burial grounds in conquered territories, where the cremation was practiced in the second century, which in turn was replaced by the skeletal way of storage at the turn of the second and third centuries. We have well-preserved written and archaeological monuments about Roman traditions. In the case of provincial practices, researchers are primarily based on artifacts found in excavation sites around the Mediterranean, and from writings by Roman historians. With this knowledge, it is possible to clarify the Roman period, the view of death, the ways and traditions in posthumous deposition among different groups throughout the Roman Empire.
