Clitic pronouns' position in verbal periphrases

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to study and analyze the clitic pronouns' position in verbal periphrases. The work is divided into two parts: theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part deals with personal pronouns, their syntactic properties and their positions in combination with the verb. We also focus on verbal periphrasis, their definitions, their delimitation and different classifications that we present in chronological order. The last chapter is devoted to the clitic pronouns' position in verbal periphrasis. The clitic pronouns (unstressed pronouns) can precede or follow the verb in the periphrases with infinitive as well as in the periphrases with gerund. We focus particularly on situations where the pronoun leaves his natural position and climbs before the periphrasis. The practical part is dedicated to the analysis of the clitic pronouns' position in verbal periphrasis with infinitive and in verbal periphrasis with gerund. The analysis is performed on a corpus, which consists of a total of 771 examples extracted from the six literary works. The main objective of this work is to identify and demonstrate on examples the clitic pronouns' behavior in these two types of verbal periphrasis. The result of our work is the finding that the clitic pronouns tend to follow the verb in the periphrases with infinitive and precede the verb in the periphrases with gerund.

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je studium a analýza pozice klitických zájmen ve slovesných perifrázích. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí: části teoretické a části praktické. V teoretické části se zabýváme osobními zájmeny, jejich syntaktickými vlastnostmi a jejich pozicemi v kombinaci se slovesem. Dále se zaměřujeme na slovesné perifráze, jejich definice, jejich vymezení a různé klasifikace, které představujeme v chronologickém pořadí. Poslední kapitola teoretické části je věnována pozicím klitických zájmen ve slovesných perifrázích. Klitická (nepřízvučná) zájmena se mohou objevit před či za slovesnými perifrázemi s infinitivem i gerundiem. Blíže se zaměřujeme především na situace, kdy zájmeno opouští svou přirozenou pozici a předsouvá se před perifráze. Praktická část je věnována analýze pozic klitických zájmen ve slovesných perifrázích s infinitivem a ve slovesných perifrázích s gerundiem. Analýza je prováděna na korpusu, který je tvořen celkem 771 příklady excerpovanými z šesti literárních děl. Hlavním cílem této práce je zjistit a doložit na příkladech, jak se klitická zájmena v těchto dvou typech perifrází chovají. Výsledkem naší práce je zjištění, že klitická zájmena ve slovesných perifrázích s infinitivem tíhnou k postpozici, zatímco ve slovesných perifrázích s gerundiem k antepozici.
