Poisson Process Parameter Estimation in Domain with Unknown Boundary

Abstract:

Estimation of the parameter of the spatial Poisson process is easy in the case the boundary of domain is known and it is possible to make repetitions of the situation or experiment. However, in many cases, it is hard to obtain the boundary and it is not possible to make repetitions. For example, the GPS technology makes obtaining the coordinates of events easy, nevertheless, there are still no natural and simple means of obtaining the boundary of the domain. This thesis presents a solution for the estimation in the domain with unknown boundary where we are able to obtain only one realisation of the situation. This solution is based on a distribution of "separating domains" which are defined in this thesis. Proposed method is tested by large number of simulations and compared with methods presented in the literature. Using method presented in this thesis, it is also possible to estimate measure of the domain with unknown boundary. For both parameters, there are derived confidence intervals (or its approximation) and confidence region for both parameters.

Abstract:

Odhad parametru prostorového Poissonova procesu je jednoduchý v situaci kdy je známá hranice oblasti a máme možnost provádět opakování situace nebo experimentu. V mnoha případech je složité získat hranici oblasti a není možné provádět opakování. Například GPS technologie umožňuje jednoduše získat souřadnice událostí, nicméně stále neexistují žádné přirozené a jednoduché prostředky jak získat hranici oblasti. Tato práce prezentuje řešení, jak odhadovat v případě oblasti s neznámou hranicí kde jsme schopni získat pouze jednu realizaci situace. Toto řešení je založeno na rozdělení "oddělujících oblastí", která jsou v této práci definovány. Navržená metoda je testována velkým počtem simulací a je srovnána s metodami, které jsou prezentovány v literatuře. S použitím metody prezentované v této práci je zároveň možné odhadnout míru oblasti s neznámou hranicí. Pro parametry jsou stanoveny intervaly spolehlivosti (nebo jejich aproximace) a region spolehlivosti pro oba parametry.
