Bel canto from the conductor‘s point of view

Abstract:

Anotace Disertační práce Belcanto z pohledu dirigenta pojednává o řadě aspektů, souvisejících s operním repertoárem, který zahrnuje mistrovská díla autorů z tradice neapolské školy od konce osmnáctého století (Cimarosa) do poloviny devatenáctého století (Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini). Konstantní prvek je reprezentován výběrem názvů děl studovaných a interpretovaných během mé činnosti dirigenta a šéfa opery. Písemná práce čerpá inspiraci z mé nekonečné vášně pro belcantová díla a pro historické období s nimi spojené a má za cíl: za prvé upozornit na některé klíčové momenty pro správné čtení partitur a za druhé akcentovat některá fakta a tradice, které jsou někdy opomíjené a přesto důležité. Závěrečná část mé práce posvěcuje zásadní vztah mezi vokální technikou a hudební interpretací, jakožto jediného klíče k dirigentově četbě a hloubkovému studiu.

Abstract:

Abstract The dissertation Bel canto from the conductor's point of view deals with: a number of aspects concerning the opera repertoire, which includes masterpieces by authors from the Neapolitan school tradition, from the end of the 18th century (Cimarosa) to the mid-19th century (Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini). The constant element is represented by a selection of titles of works studied and performed during my activity asa conductor and art director. The written work draws inspiration from my endless passion for the Bel canto works and for the historical period associated with them, and aims: firstly, to highlight some key moments for a correct reading of the scores and secondly, to accentuate some facts and traditions that are sometimes neglected and yet they are important. The final part of my work sanctifies the fundamental relationship between vocal technique and musical interpretation as the only key to the conductor's reading and in-depth study.
