Changing Chinese Calligraphic Techniques: Wang Xizhi and Xu Bing

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Proměna čínských kaligrafických technik: Wang Xizhi a Xu Bing se zaměřuje na jednu z mnoha částí čínského umění, čínskou kaligrafii. První část se zabývá vývojem čínské kaligrafie. Následně popisuje pečetě a pečetní písmo, čtyři klenoty učencovy studovny, a také formáty čínské kaligrafie. Následující dvě části jsou věnovány tvorbě vybraným představitelům čínské kaligrafie. Prvním z nich je Wang Xizhi, který žil ve 4. století a významně přispěl do kaligrafie. Druhým z nich je kaligraf 20. století, Xu Bing. Tyto dva kaligrafy jsem si zvolila záměrně, protože práce Wang Xizhiho ovlivnila následující generace kaligrafů a Xu Bing používá zcela netradiční, nadčasovou formu. Za pomocí sekundární literatury byla provedena kompilace doplněná o práci s primárními zdroji, uměleckými díly. Cílem bylo podrobně představit dva vybrané kaligrafy a jejich neznámější díla. U Wang Xizhiho jsem si zvolila nejznámější dílo Předmluva ke sbírce básní složených u Pavilonu orchidejí, a u Xu Binga jsem si zvolila dvě díla, Kniha z nebe a Kaligrafická třída. První část vede k pochopení problematiky a následné dvě části vedou k zodpovězení stanovených výzkumných otázek.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Changing Chinese Calligraphic Techniques: Wang Xizhi and Xu Bing focuses on one of many parts of Chinese art, Chinese calligraphy. The first part deals with a development of Chinese calligraphy. It then describes the seals and seal script, four treasures of the study and formats of Chinese calligraphy. The following two parts are devoted to the work of selected representatives of Chinese calligraphy. The first is Wang Xizhi, who lived in the 4th century and made a significant contribution to calligraphy. The second is a 20th century calligrapher, Xu Bing. I chose these two calligraphers on purpose because Wang Xizhi's work influenced the next generation of calligraphers, and Xu Bing uses a completely unconventional, timeless form. A compilation was completed by secondary literature supplemented by work with primary sources, works of art. The aim was to present in detail two selected calligraphers and their most famous works. With Wang Xizhi I chose his most famous work Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion and with Xu Bing I chose two works, Book from the Sky and Classroom Calligraphy. The first part leads to an understanding of the problem and the following two parts lead to answering the set research questions.
