Abstract:

Cílem této práce je analýza díla Williama Blakea The First Book of Urizen (Kniha Urizenova). Práce se zabývá tématem temnoty. Různé aspekty temnoty jsou zkoumány na textuální, vizuální I metaforické rovině, protože zejména textuální a vizuální stránka díla je silně provázána a tvoří komplexní celek. Blakeovo dílo nelze chápat pouze jako literární fikci, ale jako artikulaci jeho postojů a jeho specifické filozofie. To, jakým způsobem Blake v díle používá téma temnoty, odráží jeho vnímání materiálního světa, společnosti, institucí i autorit. Práce se tak dílčím způsobem vyjadřuje k Blakeově filozofii, která je zde ukotvena v kosmogonii a kosmologii vlastního mýtu o stvoření.

Abstract:

The main aim of the thesis is to analyse William Blake’s The First Book of Urizen. The thesis focuses primarily on selected aspects of darkness, which are identified at a textual, visual and also metaphorical level. As the thesis tries to emphasise, the textual and visual level are equally important in terms of complexity of Blake’s poetic imagination and expression. The First Book of Urizen may be understood as Blake’s introduction into his distinctive cosmology and cosmology, which allows him to provide his own creation myth. Through the analysis of selected aspects of darkness, the thesis attempts to demonstrate Blake’s views on the material world and its subjective morality resulting in social constructs, including institutionalised forms of law and religion.
