The Mimetic Dimension of Architecture - Architecture in (of) Motion

Abstract:

Diplomová práce si vytyčila za cíl popsat fenomén pohybu v architektuře z pohledu mimetologického. Na vybraných příkladech architektur z různých historických etap byla prokázána mimetická povaha architektury. Pohyb je jedním z prostředků k vyjádření její symbolické funkce. V zásadě lze sledovat dva základní proudy. V prvním je akcentován pohyb jako mimeze náboženského vnímání architektury, a to zejména v architektuře raně křesťanské až secesní. V architektuře moderní je pohyb vyjádřením technického pokroku, a to jednak používáním nových materiálů a jednak využíváním nových stavebních technologií. Vedle mimesis pohybu jako symbolu byla popsána mimetická povaha architektury v kontextu moderních pojetí mimesis.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis was aimed to describe the phenomenon of movement in the architecture from the perspective of the mimetic theory. The selected samples of the architecture from different historical periods have demonstrated the mimetic character of the architecture. The movement is one of the means to express its symbolic function. In principle, two elementary streams can be observed. In the first of them, the movement is emphasized as the mimesis of the religious perception of the architecture, especially from the early Christian architecture to the secession. In the modern architecture, the movement is the expression of the technological progress, either by the use of new materials or new building technologies. Besides the mimesis as a symbol of the movement, the mimetic character of the architecture was also observed in the modern concepts of mimesis.
