Financial Analysis of Reliance Industries

Abstract:

This study examines the long-term financial performance and market risk of Reliance Industries Limited over the period from FY2004 to FY2024 using a structured financial analysis framework. The main objective of the research is to evaluate the company’s financial growth, profitability structure, operational efficiency, and market risk by applying horizontal analysis, vertical analysis, financial ratio analysis, and the Capital Asset Pricing Model. The study follows a quantitative longitudinal research design and relies entirely on secondary financial data collected from the company’s published annual reports and verified through official stock exchange filings. Horizontal analysis is used to identify year-to-year financial trends, while vertical analysis helps explain the changing structure of income statements and balance sheets. Financial ratio analysis provides insight into profitability, efficiency, and the company’s ability to generate returns from its assets and shareholder funds. The CAPM framework is used to evaluate the company’s systematic market risk and estimate the expected return required by investors. The findings show that Reliance Industries Limited experienced strong long-term expansion in assets, revenue, and shareholder value, although the financial results also show periods of fluctuation and structural changes in profitability and capital composition. The integrated analysis of these four methods provides a clear understanding of the company’s financial development, strategic growth, and investment attractiveness over the two-decade period.
