The Level of Party Unity in Slovak Regions

Abstract:

This thesis examines the legislative behaviour of members of regional parliaments in Slovakia over the years 2006 to 2012. The aim of this thesis is to determine the level of unity of political parties participating in regional level governments and identify their legislative coalitions. The research design is based on the analysis of roll call votes using statistical methods like W-NNOMINATE or regression analysis. The first part of the thesis focuses on the theory of legislative behaviour. It is followed by presentation of data and methodology used in this work. The analytical part of the thesis studies the party unity in each region in Slovakia.

Abstract:

Táto diplomová práca sa venuje skúmaniu legislatívneho správania sa krajských poslancov na Slovensku od roku 2006 do konca roku 2012. Cieľom práce je určiť mieru jednoty politických strán zastúpených v jednotlivých zastupiteľstvách a identifikovať legislatívne koalície prítomné na krajskej úrovni. Práca je založená na analýze verejných hlasovaní, a to pomocou štatistických metód. Prvá časť práce sa venuje teórii legislatívneho správania sa. Nasleduje predstavenie použitých dát a metodológie. Analytická časť sa venuje identifikovaniu miery straníckej jednoty.
