DHL Express and Global Economic Crisis

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je rozbor a zhodnocení obchodní činnosti společnosti DHL Express. Vyjádřit, jaký význam měla krize pro společnost. Jaké problémy přinesla, jak se k dané situaci DHL postavila a hlavně, jak danou situaci řešila a jaké poučení si z tohoto období vzala. Teoreticko – metodologická část se zabývá vývojem logistiky, její historií a současným stavem. Dále se zde věnuji logistickému řetězci a jeho nejdůležitější části, dopravě. Současně specifikuji veškeré způsoby dopravy a jejich výhody a nevýhody. Poté se soustředím na kurýrní služby jak v České Republice, tak ve světě a konkurenčním prostředí. Aplikační část věnuji společnosti DHL Express, jejímu vývoji a nejdůležitějším krokům, díky kterým je dnes největším poskytovatelem služeb mezinárodní expresní přepravy a logistiky na světě. Zhodnotím hlavně období krize, kdy společnost musela začít rychle jednat, aby nepřišla o svoji pozici a udržela si své postavení. Podrobně analyzuji úsporné kroky, které společnost nastolila a pomocí SWOT analýzy specifikuji silné a slabé stránky, příležitosti a hrozby, které mohou hodně ovlivnit další vývoj na trhu expresních přeprav. V aplikační části ověřím hypotézu, že i přes nastalou finanční krizi společnost DHL zůstane leaderem na trhu a upevní si svoji pozici.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyze and evaluate the operation of DHL Express. To express the importance of the crisis for the company, what difficulties it has brought, what attitude DHL has taken to the situation and especially what edification has the company gained from this situation. The theoretical - methodical part deals with the development of logistics, it´s history and the current status. Furthermore I will be dealing with the logistic chain and it´s most important part of the transportation. At the same time I will specify all the ways of transport, their advantages and disadvantages. Then I will focus on the courier services in the Czech Republic as well as in the world and the competitive environment. The practical part is devoted to DHL Express, it´s development and the most important steps that have made DHL today's largest provider of international express and logistics in the world. I mainly focus on the period of crisis, when the company had to act quickly in order not to loose their position and retain it´s status. In detail I will have a look at the economical steps that the company has accepted and by means of the SWOT analysis I will specify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that can greatly influence further developments on the market of express shipments. The application part is also trying to confirm the hypothesis that despite the financial crisis that has arisen, DHL will remain the market leader and consolidate their position.
