The influence of teaching method of reading on pupils' reading skills at the 1st grade of elementary school

Abstract:

V předkládané disertační práci se zabýváme hledáním možných souvislostí mezi porozuměním textu u žáků na 1. stupni ZŠ a užitou výukovou metodou čtení. Hledáme odpovědi na otázku, zda existuje vztah mezi zvolenou výukovou metodou čtení a správností dekódování formy textu anebo mezi zvolenou výukovou metodou čtení a dekódováním významu textu. Práce tak reaguje na nesčetné diskuse týkající se výběru výukových metod čtení v 1. ročníku edukace převážně v časově srovnávacím měřítku. Předkládáme výsledky empirického šetření, které probíhalo mezi školními roky 2015/16 - 2018/19 na dvou základních školách v Moravskoslezském kraji. Hlavním cílem bylo zjistit, zda lze na výukovou metodu prvopočátečního čtení nahlížet jako na jeden ze zásadních faktorů ovlivňujících čtení s porozuměním. K dosažení cíle disertační práce byla zvolena metoda eyetrackingu za použití přístroje Eye Tracker Tobii TX 300, pomocí kterého jsme získali záznamy jak hlasitého čtení, tak očních pohybů jednotlivých žáků při čtení. Provedeným empirickým šetřením jsme zjistili, že zvolené výukové metody jsou ve sledovaných aspektech srovnatelné, případný rozdíl mezi nimi nepřesahuje 5 % ve prospěch metody analyticko-syntetické.

Abstract:

This dissertation deals with the search for possible links between the reading comprehension of pupils in the first grade of primary school and the methods used to teach them reading. We are looking for answers to the question of whether there is a relationship between the chosen method of teaching reading and the accuracy of decoding a form of text or between the chosen method of teaching reading and decoding the meaning of the text. This work is therefore a response to numerous discussions on the choice of the methods used to teach reading in the first grade of education mainly on a time-comparison scale. We present the results of an empirical survey that took place in the school years of 2015/16 - 2018/19 at two primary schools in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The main objective was to determine whether the method of teaching reading could be seen as one of the major factors affecting reading comprehension. To achieve the goal of the dissertation, the Eyetracking method was chosen using the Eye Tracker Tobii TX 300 device, which allowed us to record the voice and eye movements of individual pupils as they read aloud. This empirical survey informed us that the chosen teaching methods are comparable in the monitored aspects, with the potential difference between them not exceeding 5% in favor of the analytical-synthetic method.
