Abstract:
Thomas Mann toured Italy several times throughout his life - as a boy, then with his wife and children. It influenced his works, two of his novellas are situated in Italy. The novella Death in Venice was written first. It was based on a true life story, when, in Italy, Mann fell in love with a Polish boy. Thomas Mann během svého života Itálii navštívil několikrát - jako mladík, později se svojí ženou a dětmi. To samozřejmě ovlivnilo i jeho tvorbu, dvě z jeho novel se odehrávají v Itálii. Nejprve napsal novelu Smrt v Benátkách, která vznikla podle skutečnosti, kdy se Mann v Itálii zamiloval do polského chlapce.
