Abstract:

Ve své práci se věnuji představám starověkých Egypťanů o posmrtném životě. Zachycuji proměny těchto představ a jejich odraz ve hmotné kultuře. Snažím se vysvětlit, jak si Egypťané smrt představovali a jak se na ní připravovali. Věnuji se výzdobě a výstavbě hrobek, významu maleb, které jsou spjaty s pohřebními rituály a představami. Snažím se alespoň o stručné představení staroegyptské Knihy mrtvých. Rozebírám pohřební rituály, mumifikaci, obřad Otevírání úst, mýtus o smrti boha Usira a plavbu Re podsvětím. Představy o posmrtném životě měly na každodenní život Egypťanů veliký vliv a tento vliv se odráží v celé jejich tvorbě. Není snadné zachytit veškeré představy o posmrtném životě, vybrala jsem proto jen několik zajímavostí z dlouhé historie této úžasné civilizace.

Abstract:

My work is dedicated to ancient Egyptians' ideas and projections on the death and afterlife. Transitions of such projections and their reflection in objects of arts has been described. It was my objective to explain how the Egyptians imagined death and how they prepared for it. An attention is paid to burial chambers' decorations, meaning of paintings connected with burial rituals and afterlife imaginations. I am trying to provide a brief introduction of the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead. Burial rituals, mummification, Opening of the Mouth ceremony, myth of Osiris as well as the Ra's travel in the underworld has been analyzed. Projections of death and afterlife had strong influence on daily life of ancient Egyptians which fact mirrors in all their arts and crafts. As it is not easy to analyze and depict all death and afterlife ideas and projections of ancient Egyptians, only several interesting topics from the long history of that astonishing civilization has been chosen for my thesis.
