Conquest of Aztec Empire

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce je zachytit nejzásadnější důvody rozpadu aztécké říše v letech 1519-1521. Z toho důvodu je práce zaměřena na úsilí výpravy Hernána Cortése. Práce je rozdělena do šesti hlavních kapitol, které jsou děleny do podkapitol. V první kapitole jsou popsány první úspěšné výpravy Španělů v Novém Světě a jejich kolonizace Kuby. Ve stejné kapitole je představen Hernán Cortés a jeho činy, které vedly k cestě na Yucatán. V druhé kapitole jsou popsány první úspěchy Cortésovy výpravy. Dále je zde nastíněna legenda o Queztalcoatlovi a založení Veracrz. Ve třetí kapitole je popsána cesta do nitra Mexika, Cortésovi boje s Tlaxcalou, následný mír a masakr v Chollolanu. Čtvrtá kapitola je věnována španělskému příchodu do hlavního města aztécké říše Tenochtitlánu. Kapitola se dále zabývá zajetím nejvyššího aztéckého vládce Moctezumy a připlutím trestné výpravy vyslané Diegem Velasquezem. V závěru této kapitoly je popsána Noc smutků. Celá poslední kapitola je věnována událostem, které vedly k pádu aztécké říše. Na konci této kapitoly jsou popsány další výpravy Hernána Cortése a konečně jeho smrt v roce 1547. V závěru jsou shrnuty nejpodstatnější faktory, které byly zásadní při pádu aztécké říše.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis main goal is to capture the moust important reasons for decline of the aztec empire in the years of 1519-1521. The work is for this reason aimed to the efforts of the expedition of Hernan Cortés. The work is divided to the six main chapters, all of them are split to subchapters. In the first charter there are described the first succeses of Spanish and their colonization of Cuba. In the same chapter there is introduced Hernán Cortés and his deeds, that led to the journey to Yucatan. In the second chapter there are described the first succeses of the Cortés expedition. Next there is approached the legend of Quetzalcoatl and establishment of Veracruz. In the third chapter there is described road to the heart of Mexiko, Cortés struggles with Tlaxcala, thereafter peace and the masacre of Chollolan. The fourth chapter is devoted to spanish arival to the capital of aztec empire Tenochtilan. The chapter is then dealing with capturement of aztec supreme leader Moctezuma and arival of penal expedition send in by Diego Velasquez. In the ending of this chapter Night of sorrows is described. The whole of final chapter is dedicated to the events, that led to the fall of aztec empire. In the end of this chaper there are described next expeditions of Hernán Cortés and finally his dead in the year 1547. In the conclusion there are summarized the most important factors, that have been esential to the fall of aztec empire.
