Specifics of tourism in unrecognized states: the case study of Northern Cyprus

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje předpokladům cestovního ruchu v neuznaných státech, konkrétně na případové studii neuznaného státu Severního Kypru. Cílem práce je vymezení specifik, které s sebou nese absence uznání. Severokyperská turecká republika je od roku 1983 de facto státem ležícím na menší části rozlohy ostrova Kypr. Je obývaná kyperskými Turky a oficiálně uznávaná pouze Tureckem. Pevninskou hranici sdílí se svým mateřským státem Kyprem obývaným kyperskými Řeky. Kvůli své situaci má velmi ztížené podmínky svého přežití a rozvoje, ale cestovní ruch je vzhledem ke struktuře ekonomiky Severního Kypru velmi důležitým odvětvím. Práce je rozdělena na tři hlavní kapitoly. První kapitola se věnuje lokalizačním, realizačním a selektivním předpokladům cestovního ruchu. Druhá kapitola je o vymezení, vzniku, existenci a zániku neuznaných států. Třetí kapitola je empirická. Nejprve je pro kontext vysvětlen problém na ostrově a následně jsou získané poznatky z prvních kapitol aplikovány na případ turismu na Severním Kypru.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with factors of tourism in unrecognized states. Specifically, it focuses on the study of unrecognized state of Northern Cyprus. The aim of this thesis is to define specifics connected with the absence of recognition. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been de facto state located on the smaller part of the island of Cyprus since 1983. It is inhabited by Turkish Cypriots and it is recognized only by Turkey. It shares land border with its parent state - Cyprus, which is inhabited by Greek Cypriots. Due to this situation, Northern Cyprus has very difficult conditions for its survival and development, but tourism is a very important sector due to the structure of the economy of Northern Cyprus. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter deals with the localization, realization and selective factors of tourism. The second chapter is about the definition, origin, existence and extinction of unrecognized states. The third chapter is empirical. Firstly, the chapter gives the context of the problem on the island and then the information achieved from the first chapters is applied to the case of tourism in Northern Cyprus.
