Content analysis of the political rhetoric of the Iranian president and the Supreme Leader: The case of Iran's nuclear program

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe and compare the political rhetoric of two key contemporary actors of Iranian internal politics – President Hassan Rouhani and Supreme Leader ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The nuclear rhetoric of both actors will be approached using the method of quantitative content analysis. The principal aim of the research is to describe and compare the ways in which the two actors justified the need of Iran to own and develop a nuclear program to domestic and foreign audiences. Additionally, the research analyzes the attitudes of Rouhani and Khamenei toward the nuclear deal that was signed in July 2015.

Abstract:

Predmetom bakalárskej práce je popis a komparácia politickej rétoriky dvoch kľúčových aktérov iránskej vnútornej politiky – prezidenta Hasana Rúháního a Najvyššieho duchovného vodcu ajatolláha Alího Chámeneího. Subjektom systematickej kvantitatívnej obsahovej analýzy je rétorika uvedených aktérov v oblasti jadrového programu, pričom nosným výskumným cieľom práce je zistiť a porovnať to, ako obaja aktéri na domácej i zahraničnej pôde odôvodňovali potrebu Iránu vlastniť a vyvíjať jadrový program. Sekundárnym subjektom analýzy je postoj aktérov k jadrovej dohode z júla roku 2015.
