Names of the oldest dishes in the Slavic languages. Basic ingredients used to prepare them.

Abstract:

Rigorózní práce se zabývá analýzou vzniku a pojmenování některých jídel a nápojů ve slovanských jazycích. Práce zachycuje etymologický původ a sémantickou motivaci jednotlivých názvů. Záměrem je porovnání podoby výrazů v češtině a ve slovanských jazycích. Práce uvádí, jak názvy pronikají do lidové slovesnosti, popřípadě jejich přenesené významy. Rámec těmto poznatkům tvoří teoretická část, která seznamuje s kulturně historickým pozadím nejstarších pokrmů. Teoretické informace pocházejí z odborných publikací z oblasti archeologie a etnografie, které poskytují ucelený pohled na stravovací zvyklosti slovanského obyvatelstva.

Abstract:

This rigorous thesis analyses the creation and naming of certain foods and beverages in the Slavic languages. The work explores the etymological origins and semantic motivation behind these names. It aims to compare the form of these expressions in Czech and in the Slavic languages. The work shows how names, or their figurative meanings, become a part of folklore. These findings are set against the framework of a theoretical part, which describes the cultural and historical background of the oldest meals. The theoretical information is based on specialised archaeological and ethnographic publications which provide a comprehensive overview of the catering customs of the Slavic people.
