Experimental study of electronic properties of manganites and electron stimulated desorption

Abstract:

V Části I této práce studujeme elektronové vlastnosti manganátů La(1-y)Sr(y)Mn(1-x)M(x)O(3) (M = Cu, Co, Cr, Ga, Zn, Sc; x = 0.1) spektroskopickou elipsometrií v rozsahu energií 0.05 - 6.5 eV a teplot 5 - 372 K. Spektra optické vodivosti vykazují přechod izolátor-kov současně při feromagnetickém fázovém přechodu. Dielektrická funkce byla modelována dvěma Drudeho členy, znichž byla určena koncentrace vodivostních elektronů. Redistribuce spektrální vahy mezi paramagnetickou a feromagnetickou fází vykazuje několik energetických oblastí přispívajících k vybudování vodivostní odezvy: polaronový pás okolo 1.5 eV a oblast wrong spin přechodu 3 - 5 eV. Teoretická studie elipsometrické citlivosti pro stanovení anizotropní optické odezvy hypotetické manganové supermříže je popsána v Části II. Jsou srovnány tři přístupy: mnoha-úhlová spektroskopická elipsometrie (VASE), interferencí zesilněná VASE a doplňení elipsometrických dat odrazivostí. Dále je diskutován rozdíl mezi objemovým materiálem a tenkými vrstvami. Část III je věnována studii elektrony stimulované desorpce (ESD) z kovových povrchů pomocí hmotnostní spektrometrie. Práce sestávala z modernizace experimentalního uspořádání, tvorby akvizičních programů, a měření ESD materialů akcelerátoru pro velmi vysoké vakuum s energií elektronů 1 - 500 eV pro molekuly H(2), CH(4), CO(2), H(2)O, N(2).

Abstract:

In part I of this thesis we study electronic properties of manganites La(1-y)Sr(y)Mn(1-x)M(x)O(3) (M = Cu, Co, Cr, Ga, Zn, Sc; x = 0.1) by means of spectroscopic ellipsometry in energy spectral range 0.05 - 6.5 eV for temperatures 5 - 372 K. Optical conductivity spectra exhibit the insulator-metal transition concomitant with the ferromagnetic phase transition. The dielectric function was modelled with two Drude terms in order to determine the concentration of itinerant electrons. The spectral weight redistribution between the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phase exhibits three energy regions contributing to the build-up of the conducting response: the polaronic band at around 1.5 eV and the wrong spin transition region between 3 - 5 eV. A theoretical study of the ellipsometric sensitivity for the determination of the anisotropic optical response of a hypothetical manganite superlattice is discussed in Part II. Three approaches are compared: the variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry (VASE), the interference enhanced VASE and the complementation of ellipsometric data with reflectivity data. The difference of sensitivity between the bulk material and the thin film is given. Part III is dedicated to the study of the electron stimulated desorption (ESD) from metallic surfaces by means of mass spectrometry. The work consisted of an upgrade of the experimental set-up, creation of data acquisition programs, and measurement of ESD of the ultra-high vacuum accelerator materials with electron energy 1 - 500 eV for molecules H(2), CH(4), CO(2), H(2)O, N(2).
