The Concept of Proxy Warfare in the Case of Syrian Civil War

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou státní podpory nestátním ozbrojeným aktérům, resp. zástupného válčení na příkladu syrské občanské války. Představuje hlavní teoretické koncepty zkoumaného fenoménu a následně analyzuje tyto koncepty na dvou případových studiích, a to Íránu a Turecku. Cílem je poté analýza mechanismů a fungování externí podpory směřované vybraným nestátním aktérům a jaké jsou rozdíly ve výstupech mezi oběma státy. Sekundárním výstupem práce jsou poté pracovní hypotézy, které by měly naznačit obecný model zástupného válčení a současně upozornit na proměňující se role a vztahy mezi podporujícím a podporovaným aktérem.

Abstract:

The presented diploma thesis is dealing with the issue of state support to non-state armed actors, or more precisely proxy warfare on the example of the Syrian civil war. Its focus is main theoretical concepts of the studied phenomenon and then analysis of these concepts in two case studies, namely Iran and Turkey. The aim is to analyze the mechanisms and operating of external support directed at selected non-state actors and what are the main output differences between them. The other goal of this thesis is then working hypothesis, which should indicate the general model of the „proxy warfare“, while at the same time highlighting the changing roles and relationships between the supportive and the supported actor.
