Life satisfaction and self-stigmatization in the mentally ill people during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou životní spokojenosti a sebestigmatizace u pacientů s duševním onemocněním. V teoretické části je našim cílem popsat danou problematiku tak, abychom následně mohli pochopit s čím se osoby s duševní poruchou musí potýkat a také jak spolu životní spokojenost a sebestigmatizace vlastně souvisí. Cílem výzkumu je zjistit míru vnímané sebestigmatizace a subjektivně pociťované životní spokojenosti u pacientů ze skupiny úzkostných, stresových poruch, afektivních poruch, poruch osobnosti, poruch příjmu potravy a schizofrenie. Dále zjistit, jaký vliv pandemie COVID-19 pacienti pociťují na vnímané životní spokojenosti a sebestigmatizaci. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 156 osob. Respondenti s poruchou přijmu potravy, poruchou osobnosti a schizofrenii vykazovali vyšší míru sebestigmatizace než ostatní poruchy. V životní spokojenosti jsme pozorovali pokles ve všech škálách kromě škály bydlení. Nicméně jsme nezjistili žádný rozdíl v poklesu mezi jednotlivými skupinami. Potvrdilo se nám, že vyšší sebestigmatizace koreluje s nižší životní spokojeností.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of life satisfaction and self-stigmatization in patients with mental illness. In the theoretical part, our goal is to describe the issue so that we can understand what people with mental disorders have to deal with and also how life satisfaction and self-stigmatization are actually related. The aim of the research is to determine the degree of perceived self-stigmatization and subjectively felt life satisfaction in patients with diagnosed anxiety and stress disorders, affective disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders and schizophrenia. Furthermore, to determine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients' perceived life satisfaction and self-stigmatization. The research group consisted of 156 people. In our cohort, patients with eating disorders, personality disorders, and schizophrenia showed higher levels of self-stigmatization than patients with other disorders. In life satisfaction, we observed a decrease in all scales except the housing scale. However, we did not find any difference in the decrease between the groups. It was confirmed that higher self-stigmatization correlates with lower life satisfaction.
