The therapists´ experiences with the results of the occupational therapy (and its impact on school results in children in Primary School)

Abstract:

V teoretické části diplomové práce je vysvětlen termín ergoterapie, práce ergoterapeuta, možnosti jeho působení a vliv ergoterapie na prospívání žáků na 1. stupni ZŠ. Cílem této práce je zjistit zkušenosti ergoterapeutů s výsledky jejich terapie a vysvětlit dopad ergoterapie na školní výsledky žáků na 1. stupni ZŠ. Teoretická část seznamuje širokou veřejnost s náplní práce ergoterapeuta a naznačuje důležitost této terapie. Pro výzkumné šetření je použita metoda rozhovoru a také přímé nestrukturované pozorování. Jedná se o kvalitativní šetření. Ve výzkumné části byly prováděny rozhovory s jednotlivými profesionálními ergoterapeutkami, zaměřené především na výsledky jejich terapie. Dále zde byly zpracovány čtyři případové studie orientované na děti mladšího školního věku, ve kterých je propojena ergoterapie a její vliv na prospívání žáků na 1. stupni ZŠ. Součástí těchto případových studií jsou také rozhovory s ergoterapeutkami, pedagogy i matkami. Na základě získaných výsledků lze ergoterapii chápat jako velice prospěšnou terapii, která rozhodně vliv na školní výsledky žáků na 1. stupni má. Pokroky jsou znatelné zejména v oblasti jemné motoriky, která je během terapií trénována, a její pravidelné procvičování zlepšuje školní dovednosti žáků, jako je především psaní, kreslení, malování a stříhání. Ergoterapie pomáhá klientům zlepšit vykonávání činností, které jsou pro ně problematické, a měla by se stát nedílnou součástí péče o tělesně či mentálně postižené děti a přispět tak k jejich celkově lepšímu prospívání ve škole.

Abstract:

In the theoretical part of this thesis the term occupational therapy is explained, as is the work of an occupational therapist, the possibilities of his application and the influence of occupational therapy on results of children in Primary School. The goal of this thesis is to collect the findings of occupational therapists and explain how occupational therapy impacts school results. The theoretical part acquaints laymen with the particulars of working as an occupational therapist and suggests the importance of occupational therapy. Dialogue and direct unstructured observation are used as research methods. This is a qualitative survey. Interviews focused mainly on the results of occupational therapy were conducted with professional occupational therapists as a part of the research. Four case studies oriented on younger children were fashioned next. Those studies combined occupational therapy and its influence with school results in children in Primary School. Interviews with occupational therapists, pedagogues and mothers were also part of the case studies. Based on our findings, occupational therapy can be acknowledged as very advantageous therapy with significant impact on school results in children in Primary School. Progress is especially obvious in fine motor skills, which are practised during occupational therapy, and its regular exercising improves the proficiency in children, especially while writing, drawing, painting or doing cut outs. Occupational therapy helps clients improve skills they find difficult to master and it should become an integral part of caring for mentally or physically handicapped children and contribute to achieving better school results.
