Impact of the economic crisis on the credit market in Slovakia

Abstract:

Thesis discusses the influence of the economic crisis on the credit market in Slovakia. The first part of the thesis introduces the commercial bank sector and the role of the National Bank of Slovakia in the banking system of Slovakia. The main principles of the credit segmentation are introduced including the criteria such as redeem periods and form of monetary transformations. Reasons leading to the existence of the current financial crisis are presented as well as its discourse and elimination efforts of the consequence. Thesis presents statistical evaluation of the interest rate development in addition to the volume of the loans provided since 2005 and their influence on the economic result of the Slovak commercial banks in comparison to the commercial banks within the rest of the Eurozone. Commercial banks in Slovakia were hit by the crisis to the lesser extent than the other world banks, on the volume of the loans provided it reflected minimally, only from 2008 to 2009 there has been noted slower growth of the loans. In the end of the thesis, there is a description of the steps of Slovenska sporitelna a. s. made to maintain the position on the credit market and also to strengthen and improve the position on the credit market.

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá vplyvom ekonomickej krízy na trh úverov na Slovensku. Na začiatku práce je charakterizované komerčné bankovníctvo a úloha Národnej banky Slovenska v systéme bankovníctva Slovenskej Republiky. Sú v nej ozrejmené hlavné členenia úverov so širšou charakteristikou rozdelenia podľa doby splácania a formy peňažných transformácií. Vymenované súv nej príčiny vedúce k vzniku súčasnej finančnej krízy, jej prejavy a snahy o elimináciu ich dopadov. V diplomovej práci je štatisticky zhodnotený vývoj úrokových sadzieb, ako aj objemy poskytnutých úverov od roku 2005 a ich vplyv na hospodársky výsledok Slovenských komerčných bánk s porovnaním s komerčnými bankami v Eurozóne. Komerčné banky na Slovensku postihla kríza v oveľa menšej miere ako veľké svetové banky, na objeme nimi poskytovaných úverov sa to prakticky odrazilo len okrajovo, a to tak, že sa znížil ročný nárast úverov v rokoch 2008 a 2009. V závere práce sú opísané kroky, ktoré podnikala Slovenská sporiteľňa a.s. za účelom nielen udržania si pozície na trhu úverov, ale aj upevnenia a vylepšenia si svojej pozície na trhu úverov.
