Gender segregation in labour market in the Czech Republic during the years 1993 to 2018

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vývojem genderové segregace na trhu práce České republiky v letech 1993 až 2018. V teoretické části jsou uvedeny základní pojmy týkající se genderové segregace a klasifikací CZ-NACE a CZ-ISCO. Dále jsou zde využity poznatky behaviorální ekonomie, psychologie a sociologie, které slouží k analýze chování mužů a žen jakožto ekonomických subjektů. Praktická část detekuje možné důvody, které zapříčiňují změny, či naopak přetrvávající strnulosti v oblasti horizontální genderové segregace trhu práce. I přes zvýšený zájem žen o některé doposud segregované oblasti trhu práce zůstává situace většinou nezměněná a v některých případech dochází i k prohloubení nerovného zastoupení. Mezi hlavní faktory ovlivňující genderovou segregaci patří fyzické predispozice, společenské stereotypy, averze k riziku, nerovné platové podmínky, samotná feminizace a maskulinizace prostředí, sociální nastavení či vyjednávací schopnosti jedince.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis contemplates the evolution of gender segregation in labour market in the Czech Republic during the years 1993 to 2018. The theoretical part presents the basic concepts concerning the gender segregation and CZ-NACE and CZ-ISCO classifications. Furthermore, knowledge of behavioral economics, psychology and sociology is used to analyse the behavior of men and women as economic entities. The practical part detects the possible reasons causing changes or, on the contrary, persistent stagnation in the field of horizontal gender segregation of the labour market. Despite the increased interest of women in some hitherto segregated areas of the labour market, the situation mostly remains unchanged, in some cases, the unequal representation is deepened. Some of the main factors affecting gender segregation are physical predispositions, social stereotypes, aversion towards risk taking, unequal salary conditions, social setting, negotiation skills of an individual or the feminization and masculinization of the environment itself.
