Madonna with a Fish – historical research as a tool for evaluating a museum object

Abstract:

Obsahem práce je rekonstrukce osudů obrazu ze sbírek Muzea Vysočiny Třebíč, který vnikl jako kopie slavného Raffaelova obrazu Madona s rybou. Na příkladu obrazu se ukazuje zásadní vliv muzejní péče, která přispívá k nejen k fyzickému zachování předmětu, ale prostřednictvím metod muzeologických disciplín vede k zásadnímu zhodnocení poznatků o sbírkovém předmětu jako takovém. Na základě historického bádání jsou doplněny nové informace ke stávající muzejní dokumentaci. S přispěním metod historických disciplín aplikovaných v muzejním prostředí a na pozadí „muzejního života“ obrazu se odkrývají jeho osudy od 1. poloviny 20. století až po současnost. Práce se dotýká také okolností spojených s obrazem jako uměleckým dílem a objektem sběratelského zájmu. Stranou nezůstává ani úvaha nad obecnými předpoklady vzniku kopie obrazu v návaznosti na originál a zamyšlení nad jeho možnou cestou na naše území.

Abstract:

The content of the work is a reconstruction of the fate of the painting from the collections of Museum of Vysočina Třebíč, which came as a copy of the famous Raphael's painting Madonna with a Fish. The example of the painting shows the fundamental influence of museum care, which contributes not only to the physical preservation of the object, but through the methods of museum disciplines leads to a fundamental evaluation of knowledge about the collection object as such. Based on historical research, new information has been added to the existing museum documentation. With the contribution of methods of historical disciplines applied in the museum environment and against the background of the "museum life" of the painting, its destinies from the first half of the 20th century to the present are revealed. The work also touches on the circumstances associated with the painting as a work of art and an object of collector's interest. The consideration of the general assumptions of the creation of a copy of the painting in relation to the original and reflection on its possible journey to our territory is not left out either.
