Simulation of the future climate of Brno

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou simulací vybraných klimatických charakteristik (letní a tropické dny, teplé a tropické noci). Tyto simulace byly provedeny modelem MUKLIMO_3 a metodou cuboidu na území města Brna pro několik období v minulosti (1961–1990, 1971–2000, 1981–2010) a budoucnosti (2021–2050, 2071–2100). Simulace buducnosti byly tvořeny s ohledem na tři emisní scénáře RCP – 2.6, 4.5 a 8.5. Jednotlivé simulace jsou analyzovány na základě prostorového rozložení zvolených klimatických charakteristik. Z výsledků práce vyplývá, že u všech zvolených klimatických charakteristik bude docházet ke zvyšování počtů do budoucnosti, přičemž absolutně nejvyšší hodnoty všech charakteristik jsou modelovány pro období 2071–2100 pro scénář RCP 8.5. Charakteristikou, pro kterou byl zaznamenán nejvyšší růst počtu do budoucnosti byly tropické dny – nejvýše 20 tropických dní v období 1961–1990 v porovnání s maximálními 81,7 tropickými dny v období 2071–2100. Jako oblasti, ve kterých bude docházet k nejvyšším nárůstům počtů klimatických charakteristik byly označeny oblasti Brna-středu a částí Trnitá a Komárov. Důsledky klimatické změny budou ve městech znamenat nejen vysokou teplotní zátěž, ale potenciálně také sucho, zvýšení úmrtnosti, degradaci životního prostředí a majetku a další. Těmto důsledkům je možné předejít pomocí vhodných mitigačních a adaptačních opatření jako např. budováním systému zelených ploch.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis carries out an analysis of simulations of selected climate indices (summer and tropical days, warm and tropical nights). These simulations have been made using model MUKLIMO_3 and the cuboid method for several periods of time in history (1961–1990, 1971–2000, 1981–2010) and in the future (2021–2050, 2071–2100). Future simulations have been carried out with regard to three RCP emission scenarios – 2.6, 4.5 and 8.5. All simulations have been performed for an area including the city of Brno. Each simulation has been analysed for the spatial distribution of selected climate indices. Results show that the numbers of all selected indices are about to rise in the future with the highest numbers modelled for 2071–2100 and RCP 8.5. Climate index with the highest increase in numbers are tropical days – from maximum 20 tropical days in 1961–1990 to maximum of 81,7 tropical days in 2071–2100. Areas with the highest increase in numbers of climate indices were identified as Brno-střed, Trnitá and Komárov. Consequences of climate change in cities mean not only elevated thermal stress, but potentially drought, increased mortality, degradation of environment and damage of property and others. These consequences can be prevented by implementing suitable mitigation and adaptation strategies such as building systems of green sites.
