Revize vertebratologických sbírek kapalinových a taxidermických preparátů na Přírodovědecké fakultě Ostravské univerzity

Vertebrate collections of wet specimens and taxidermic preparations at the Faculty of Science of the University of Ostrava: A revision

Abstract:

V teoretické části práce jsem se zabývala rešeršním zpracováním tématu taxidermie. Definovala jsem pojem taxidermie a s ním další související pojmy. Zabývala jsem se jednotlivými typy taxidermických preparátů a jejich tvorbou s vhodně užitým materiálem i chemikáliemi. Nechybí zmínka o historii, odchytu zvěře a bezpečnosti práce. Na závěr jsem se zabývala péčí o preparáty a jejich edukačnímu přínosu. V praktické části jsem zhodnotila stav kapalinové sbírky preparátů o 115 vzorcích umístěných v Laboratoři zoologie obratlovců na Katedře biologie a ekologie Přírodovědecké fakulty Ostravské univerzity. U každého preparátu jsem zjišťovala stav a zabarvení fixační kapaliny ve válci, zda je přítomno fixační podložní sklo a živočich je na něj správně upevněn. Poté jsem se věnovala revizi stavu a těsnosti uzávěrů válců, revizi a korekci taxonomii preparovaných živočichů, třídění kapalinových preparátů (klasické, anatomické a pryskyřičné) a revizi popisných štítků lokalit sběru preparovaných živočichů. Revize sbírky kapalinových preparátů prokázala, že 69 preparátů z celkového počtu 115 má poškozený uzávěr. Příčinou bylo stáří preparátů a popraskání krytu z historických biomateriálů, nedostatečně upevněné fólie, a chybějící či nevhodně užité uzávěry. Dalším typem poškození byl nedostatek fixační kapaliny u 41 válců, který souvisí s uzávěrem. U 25 válců došlo k zabarvení původního fixativa, které ale můžeme považovat jen za estetickou vadu. U 22 preparátů chyběl popisný štítek s názvem druhu/rodu živočicha. Nejmenší poškození trpěly preparáty s chybějícím podložním sklem, jejich špatným upevněním a zakalením. Ve sbírce bylo 94 běžných kapalinových preparátů, 18 anatomických a 3 pryskyřičné preparáty. Preparátů, které dokládají lokalitu odchytu sběru bylo pouze 12. Jednalo se o zástupce paprskoploutvých ryb odchycených v Černém moři. Tyto preparáty mají mimo význam didaktický také svou vědeckou hodnotu. Pravidelné revize umožňují odhalit různá poškození preparátů. Ty je potřeba opravit za účelem prodloužení jejich životnosti. Díky pravidelnosti revizí můžeme některým poškozením předejít. Teoretická část této práce zároveň slouží jako manuál, ve kterém se nachází řešení problémů nalezených během revize.

Abstract:

In the theoretical part of my work I dealt with research processing on the topic of taxidermy. I defined the term taxidermy and other terms related to it. Further, I dealt with individual types of taxidermy preparations and preparation technology, using appropriate materials and chemicals. I also summarised methods of animal trapping and safety work during preparation work. At the end of my Thesis I dealt with a topic related to a relevant care of fixed animal collections and their educational benefits. In the practical part of my Thesis I evaluated a condition of the liquid collection of preparations within 115 preparations located in the Laboratory of vertebrate zoology at the Department of Biology and Ecology of the Faculty of Science University of Ostrava. For each specimen, I checked the condition and color of the fixation solution in glass cylinders, and a condition of a glass slide used to fix an animal preparation. After that, I evaluated a condition of lids and caps, and revised a taxonomy of dissected animals. I also sorted types of liquid preparations (classic, anatomical and resin preparations), and revised labels related to origins of collected samples. A revision of the collections of liquid preparations showed that 69 preparations out of a total of 115 had a damaged cap. The actual condition of preparations was due to a generally old age of preparations, or damage of a cover made of historical biomaterials, insufficiently fixed foil cover, and missing or inappropriate seals and caps. Another damage was a lack of preparation fluid in 41 cylinders, which is closely related to the cap. For 25 cylinders, the original fixative has a secondary color, but we can only consider it an aesthetic defect. For 22 specimens, a descriptive label with the name of the species/genus of the animal was missing. Specimens with missing glass slides, their poor fixation and clouding suffered the least damage. The collection includes 94 liquid preparations, 18 anatomical and three resin specimens. There were only 12 specimens documenting the location of the collection. All these were representatives of ray-finned fish caught in the Black Sea. In addition to their didactic significance, a collection of preparations has scientific value. Regular revisions make it possible to detect various damage to the preparations. Fixing and reparing such damages may extend the life of a particular specimen and the collection itself. A regular revision may prevent some of the later specimen damages. The theoretical part of this work also serves as a manual on dealing with damages found during revisions of the animal collection.
