Influence of Severe Impairment on Interpersonal Relationships between Siblings

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vztahy mezi sourozenci, které jsou ovlivněny těžkým postižením jednoho ze sourozenců. Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit, jak vnímají starší sourozenci svou roli v rodině s dítětem s postižením a vzájemné vztahy v rodině. Dílčím cílem je zjistit, jestli si plánují svou budoucnost s ohledem na něj. Práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol, první dvě jsou teoretické a třetí praktická. V první kapitole teoretické části je představen pojem mozkové obrny jako těžkého postižení, její formy a poruchy k mozkové poruše přidružené. Druhá kapitola je věnována rodině dítěte a jeho sourozenci. Praktickou část tvoří kvalitativní výzkum, do kterého je zahrnuto pět starších sourozenců dětí s kombinovaným postižením. Jako metoda sběru dat je použit polostrukturovaný rozhovor, který vychází z předem připravených otázek.

Abstract:

This Bachelor Thesis addresses sibling relationships which are influenced by a severe impairment in one of the siblings. The primary objective of this Thesis is to identify, how elder siblings perceive their roles and relationships in families with an impaired child. The secondary objective of this Thesis is to investigate, if siblings of an impaired child consider the needs of their impaired brothers and/or sisters in their plans for future. The Thesis is divided into three parts: the first two parts are theoretical, the third part practical. The first chapter in the theoretical part contains the introduction in the term "Cerebral Palsy" as a form of severe impairment. It explains the types of cerebral palsy, as well as other impairments which are associated with it. The second chapter deals with issues related to the impaired child’s family, and his/her sibling(s) in particular. The practical part of this Thesis comprises a qualitative survey including five elder siblings of children with multiple handicap. The data were collected in semi-structured interviews which were based on questions prepared in advance.
