Rehabilitation of a patient with Multiple Sclerosis: case report

Abstract:

Multiple Sclerosis is an inflammatory demyelinating des ease that affects specificately the central nervous system. It represents one f the most frequent causes of cronical and neurological disability in young adults as a progressive-cronicalneurodegenerative des ease. Its beginning is between 20 and 40 years old. It is manifested by a symptomatology characterized by hypoastenia in one or more limbs, neuritis optics, paresthesia, diplopia, dizziness and micturition disorders, as well as mood disorders, intellectual deficits and epilepsy affecting the cortex. The presentation of the clinical case aims to highlight the diversity of the disease and the multifactoriality of the therapeutic approach. In fact, each patient is different from others, thus requiring a specific and customized rehabilitation program. For the PC in question in particular, the FKT sets short-term goals to reduce the risk of falling, treat the symptoms at the time of the session itself and guarantee, in the limits of the possible, the maintenance of the remaining autonomy. Some goals are were achieved thanks to the cooperation and motivation of the patient himself, others instead they proved unreachable due to the overt and chronic deficits typical of same illness.

Abstract:

La Sclerosi multipla ? una malattia infiammatoria demielinizzante specifica del sistema nervoso centrale e rappresenta una delle cause pi? frequenti di disabilit? cronica da patologia neurologica nei giovani adulti in quanto patologia neurodegenerativa-cronico-progressiva. Il suo esordio si colloca tra i 20 e i 40 anni. Si manifesta con una sintomatologia caratterizzata da ipoastenia in uno o pi? arti, neurite ottica, parestesie, diplopia, vertigini e disturbi della minzione, nonché disturbi dell'umore, deficit intellettuali e epilessia a carico della corteccia. La presentazione del caso clinico intende mettere in luce la diversit? della malattia e l'importanza della multifattorialit? dell'approccio terapeutico. Ogni paziente presenta aspetti sintomatologici diversi , necessitando quindi di un programma riabilitativo specifico e personalizzato. Considerando il quadro clinico descritto nella tesi, la FKT pone obiettivi a breve termini per ridurre il rischio di caduta, trattare i sintomi al momento della seduta stessa e garantire, nei limiti del possibile, il mantenimento dell'autonomia residua. Alcuni obiettivi sono stati raggiunti grazie alla collaborazione e la motivazione del paziente stesso, altri invece si sono dimostrati irraggiungibili per i deficit conclamati e cronici tipici della stessa malattia.
