Awareness of alternative fuel vehicles among Czech consumers

Abstract:

Vozidla na alternativní paliva (AFV) jsou důležitým prvkem při rozvoji udržitelné mobility. Dle průzkumů, šance na rozšíření vozidel AFV snižují omezené znalosti spotřebitelů a nedostatečná nabídka výhod od státu, a to jak při nákupu, tak později při provozu. Z těchto důvodů se i rozvoj udržitelné mobility zpomaluje. Cílem této práce je pomocí dotazníkového šetření metodou "sněhová koule" zjistit míru znalostí českých spotřebitelů, jaký je jejich zájem o nákup těchto vozidel a co tento zájem ovlivňuje. Na základě vyhodnocení získaných dat pak určit atributy, které zvýšení prodeje vozidel AFV podpoří, a tím i více přiblíží udržitelnou mobilitu. Nejprve se v této práci na sekundárních datech zkoumá a vyhodnocuje stav prodeje automobilů na alternativní paliva v ČR, a poté je provedena analýza primárních dat získaných vlastním šetřením. Na nich se zjišťuje, zda se míra znalostí odvíjí od velikosti bydliště, dosaženého vzdělání, způsobu získávání informací nebo socioekonomického postavení respondentů. V další části je pak na těchto datech provedena analýza prvků ovlivňujících zájem o koupi vozidel AFV. Data jsou zpracována pomocí popisné statistiky a statistických testů nezávislosti. Výsledek práce je doporučením, jakým směrem by se měli ubírat výrobci automobilů ke zvýšení prodeje, a zároveň jaké pobídky na podporu prodeje vozidel na alternativní paliva může stát vytvořit.

Abstract:

Alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) are an important element in the development of sustainable mobility. According to surveys, the chances of AFV uptake are reduced by limited consumer knowledge and the lack of benefits offered by the government, both at purchase and later in operation. For these reasons, the development of sustainable mobility is also slowing down. The aim of this paper is to use a questionnaire survey using the snowball method to determine the level of knowledge of Czech consumers, what their interest in purchasing these vehicles is and what influences this interest. Then, based on the evaluation of the data obtained, to identify the attributes that will increase the sales of AFVs and thus bring sustainable mobility closer. First, this paper uses secondary data to examine and evaluate the state of sales of alternative fuel vehicles in the country, and then analyses the primary data obtained through its own investigation. These are used to investigate whether the level of knowledge is related to the size of residence, educational attainment, mode of information acquisition or socio-economic status of the respondents. The next section then uses these data to analyse the elements influencing interest in purchasing AFVs. The data are processed using descriptive statistics and statistical tests of independence. The result of the paper is a recommendation on what direction automakers should take to increase sales, as well as what incentives can be created by the government to encourage sales of alternative fuel vehicles.
