Analyses of the conflict between city-states of Thebes and Sparta in the years of 379-362

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyze the armed conflict between the city-states of Thebes and Sparta in the years 379-362 BC and then to analyse the military strategies employed by primary actors. For the analysis of the conflict I used the model developed by Uppsala Peace and Conflict Research Institute. For the analysis of military strategies I used Arthur Lykke’s model, used at U.S. Army War College. In the conclusion I claim that military strategies employed by both belligerents may had been the most important determinants of the character of the conflict.

Abstract:

Cieľom bakalárskej práce je analyzovať ozbrojený konflikt medzi Thébami a Spartou v rokoch 379-362 pred n.l. a následne analyzovať vojenské stratégie primárnych aktérov konfliktu. Pre potreby analýzy konfliktu som použil model vytvorený Uppsalským Inštitútom pre výskum mieru a konfliktov. Pre analýzu vojenskej stratégie som využil model Arthura Lykkeho, využívaný na U.S. Army War College. Výsledkom analýzy je tvrdenie, že vojenské stratégie aktérov mohli byť kľúčovým determinantom charakteru konfliktu.
