Prince Wenceslas in literature for children and youth

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá pojetím knížete Václava v literatuře pro děti a mládež. Jejím hlavním cílem je zjistit, jakými prostředky je ve vybraných titulech tato osobnost přiblížena dětskému čtenáři. Dalším cílem je pak porovnat, zda se jeho ztvárnění nějakým způsobem liší od jeho tradiční charakteristiky známé z nejstarších pramenů a zda tak dochází k obohacení informací. Posledním účelem je zjistit, zda jsou zvolené tituly vhodné pro využití ve výuce na základních školách. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, na teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části jsou uvedeny nejdůležitější legendy a kroniky, které zobrazují knížete a světce Václava. Tyto prameny přiblíží typickou charakteristiku Václava, případně jeho příbuzných. Připomenut bude také ve zkratce zájem beletristů o tuto tematiku přetrvávající až do dnešní doby. Praktická část pak obsahuje rozbory tří knih, a to Svatý Václav: vraždou to nekončí od Veroniky Válkové, Ludmila, Václav a Boleslav od Renáty Fučíkové a Doba knížete Václava od Evy Semotanové. V závěrečné části práce je shrnuto, jak se jednotlivým autorům podařilo naplnit výše uvedené cíle.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with notion of prince Wenceslas in literature for children and youth. The main aim of this thesis is to discover the elements, which were used by the authors in the selected books in order to describe this personality to children and youth. The next aim is to compare Wenceslas' traditional portrayals from the oldest sources with his description in the selected literature. The last aim is to evaluate whether it is suitable to use the selected books as an education material at primary or lower-secondary school. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical. The first one depicts the most significant legends and chronicles, which capture the prince and the saint Wenceslas. These sources show the typical characteristics of the prince, and his relatives as well. It also mentions a lasting interest in this theme in the fiction until the present. The practical part consists of analyses of three works: Svatý Václav: vraždou to nekončí (The saint Wenceslas: the story doesn't end by murder) by Veronika Válková, Ludmila, Václav a Boleslav: Přemyslovci očima mnicha Kristiána (Ludmila, Wenceslas and Boleslaus: Premyslians by the point of view of the monk Christian) by Renáta Fučíková and Doba knížete Václava (The term of the prince Wenceslas) by Eva Semotanová. The final part contains summary, where answer the three main aims of the work are answered.
