Information, communication and being: a fragment of realistic information science

Abstract:

Cílem práce je tedy pokusit se proniknout do určitých metafyzických problémů, které se s rozvojem informační vědy objevily, a snažit se vysledovat, jaké důsledky pro tento vědní obor mohou mít. První čtyři kapitoly se zabývají pojmem informace. První kapitola poukazuje na to, že filosofická zkoumání pojmu informace, který se objevuje s rozvojem kybernetiky a počítačové vědy, přispívá k návratu aristotelského paradigmatu do vědy. Ve druhé kapitole je pojem informace důkladně analyzován a pracovně definován. Autor shledává, že jde o pojem analogický, což znamená, že jej lze užívat na různých úrovních reality, avšak za předpokladu, že vždy je myšleno něco trochu jiného. Ve třetí kapitole je pojem informace klasifikován, představeno je pojetí informace Josefa Šmajse a pojetí informace, které pro informační vědu buduje Jiří Cejpek. Ve čtvrté kapitole je zkoumán vztah informace k nejzákladnějším hodnotám. V páté kapitole se autor zabývá Jakobsonovým modelem komunikace a informačním systémem; blíže se zamýšlí nad pojmem systém a analyzuje jej z ontologického hlediska. Šestá kapitola se věnuje vztahu prostředků komunikace a lidské společnosti, je poukázáno na nekritické zveličování jejich významu pro vývoj společnosti, dále autor sleduje dějiny sociální komunikace z hlediska užívaných kódů i společenského kontextu. Práce se tedy dotýká otázek ontologických, noetických, psychologických a etických a sociologických.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to attempt at an insight into certain metaphysical problems emerged in connection with the advancement of information science and to trace possible consequences these problems might bring into the discipline concerned. The initial four chapters present an analysis of the notion or concept of information. Within this section, the first chapter predominantly points out that the philosophical investigation of the said concept of information, which appeared along with the development of cybernetics and information science, has contributed to the return of the Aristotelian paradigm into science in general. In the second chapter, the notion of information is thoroughly analyzed and operatively defined. Here, the author states that the concept has an analogical character, which means that the notion can be used on diverse levels of reality (albeit on the condition that the thing really meant is always slightly different). The third chapter, then, contains a classification of the concept as well as an introduction of individual approaches to the entire problem, namely those conceived for information science by Josef Šmajs and Jiří Cejpek. In the fourth chapter, an investigation is presented of the relationship between information and the most fundamental values. The succeeding fifth part comprises the authors´s examination of the Jakobson communication model and the question of the information system; in this respect, the chapter provides the author´s reflection on the concept of the system together with his analysis of the notion from the ontological perspective. The sixth chapter involves essentially an interpretation of the relationship between means of communication and human society; upon examining means of communication, the author points to indiscriminative exaggeration of their importance for the advancement of society. Another problem pursued in this connection consists in observing the history of social communication in light of both the codes applied and the social context. It is therefore inferable from the account as provided here that the presented work includes problems of ontology, noetics, psychology, and ethics.
