Složení chemického povrchu určuje vlastnosti mikrobiální buňky, jako je hydrofobita/hydrofilita, povrchový náboj, antigenní vlastnosti. To pak určuje schopnost mikroorganismu tvořit biofilm, adherovat k povrchům, interagovat se s jinými buňkami daného druhu či jinými mikroorganismy, odolávat vlivům zevního prostředí aj. The surface composition determines the surface properties of cell, such as hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity, surface charge, antigenic properties.
