Prevention of limb diseases in cattle

Abstract:

Cílem disertační práce bylo ověření účinnosti dezinfekcí pro koupele končetin skotu a způsob odběru vzorků z lézí postižených končetin. Laboratorní testy probíhaly metodou neutralizační, membránové filtrace a průtokovou cytometrií. Síran měďnatý a formaldehyd měly dezinfekční efekt na Pseudomonas aeruginosa a Proteus hauseri. Na kmeny Staphylococcus aureus a Enterococcus hirae tato účinnost potvrzena nebyla. Terénními testy se podařilo otestovat účinnost kombinace dvou přípravků pro koupele končetin CuSO4 a ZnSO4 metodou membránové filtrace. Testované přípravky byly účinné do průchodu maximálního počtu 250 krav. V průběhu roku měly nekrobacilóza, dermatitis digitalis a interdigitalis kolísavou tendenci. V závislosti na teplotě a relativní vlhkosti je výskyt dermatitis interdigitalis a nekrobacilózy nejvyšší při teplotě do 3 °C a relativní vlhkosti vzduchu do 90 %. Změna managementu péče o paznehty s pravidelným celoplošným ošetřením vždy po 4-5 měsících a pravidelných koupelích vždy jednou týdně 30 minut ve stacionární vaně napomohlo v průběhu jednoho roku ke snížení nekrobacilózy v chovu o 77,2 %. Při koupání končetin pouze formaldehydem byla snížená prevalence nekrobacilózy, nikoli dermatitidy. Naopak při využití síranu měďnatého byly výsledky opačné. Vzorky z lézí je vhodné odebrat za použití odběrového tamponu s transportním médiem Copan Liquid Amies Elution Swab.

Abstract:

The doctoral thesis aimed to verify the effectiveness of disinfectants for cattle footbaths and the method of sampling from lesions of affected limbs. Laboratory tests were carried out using the method of neutralization, membrane filtration and flow cytometry. Copper sulfate and formaldehyde had a disinfecting effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus hauseri. This efficacy has not been confirmed for strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus hirae. Through field tests, it was possible to test the effectiveness of the combination of two products for limb baths, CuSO4 and ZnSO4, using the membrane filtration method. The tested disinfectants were effective up to the passage of a maximum number of 250 cows. During the year, footrot, dermatitis digitalis and interdigitalis had a fluctuating tendency. Depending on the temperature and relative humidity, the occurrence of dermatitis interdigitalis and footrot is highest at a temperature of up to 3 °C and a relative humidity of up to 90%. Changing management with regular footbath treatment every 4-5 months and regular baths once a week for 30 minutes in a stationary bath helped reduce footrot in breeding by 77.2% over one year. Extremity bathing with formaldehyde alone reduced the prevalence of footrot but not dermatitis. On the contrary, using copper sulfate, the results were the opposite. Samples from lesions should be collected using a Copan Liquid Amies Elution Swab transport medium.
