Therapeutic potential of probiotics from the nursing perspective

Abstract:

Úvod: Význam mikrobioty lidského těla se stává čím dál diskutovanějším tématem. Především mikrobiota gastrointestinálního traktu je velmi důležitým prvkem v udržení celkového zdraví organismu. Proto je důležité znát možnosti, kterými můžeme náš střevní mikrobiom ovlivnit pozitivně, či negativně. Cíl práce: Zjistit pomocí sestaveného dotazníku úroveň informovanosti široké veřejnosti o problematice probiotik a na základě výsledků tohoto dotazníku určit edukační potřebu a vytvořit vyhovující edukační materiál ve formě informačního letáku. Metodika: Pro náš průzkum byla použita kvantitativní metoda nestandardizovaného dotazníku. Dotazník byl distribuován prostřednictvím sociální sítě Facebook a Discord. Soubor respondentů tvořili lidé starší 18 let. Výsledky byly zpracovány do grafů a tabulek pomocí programů Microsoft Office Word a Google Sheets. Výsledky: Z celkového počtu 56 respondentů již o probiotikách slyšelo 87,5 % z nich a celkem 80,4 % z celkového počtu bylo schopno pojem probiotika definovat. Mezi nejčastější zdroje informací o probiotikách patřil s 42,9 % internet, následoval lékař s 37,5 % a nelékařský zdravotnický personál, který uvedlo 30,4 % respondentů. Co se týče znalosti účinků probiotik - 71,4 % respondentů uvedlo, že účinky probiotik na lidský organismus znalo a následně je vyjmenovalo. Potraviny, obsahující probiotika znalo 69,6 % respondentů. O doplňcích stravy s probiotiky už slyšelo 85,7 % dotazovaných a užívalo je 46,4 % respondentů. Pouze 48,2 % respondentů vědělo, co jsou prebiotika a 33,9 % vědělo, ve kterých potravinách prebiotika hledat. Závěr: Celkově své znalosti o probiotikách prokázalo velké množství respondentů a při porovnání se studiemi z minulých let můžeme sledovat podstatné rozdíly v informovanosti laické veřejnosti o probiotikách. Je nutné nadále prohlubovat znalosti lékařů a dalších zdravotnických pracovníků o probiotikách a možnostech jejich využití, a i nadále je předávat pacientům.

Abstract:

Introduction: The importance of the microbiota of the human body is becoming an increasingly discussed topic. Above all, the microbiota of the gastrointestinal tract is a very important element in maintaining the overall health of the whole organism. Therefore, it is important to know the possibilities by which we can influence our intestinal microbes positively or negatively. Objective: Using a questionnaire compiled by me, determine the level of awareness of the general public about the issue of probiotics and based on the results of this questionnaire, determine the educational need and create a suitable educational material in the form of an information leaflet. Methodology: The quantitative method of a non-standardized questionnaire was used for our survey. The questionnaire was distributed through the social networks Facebook and Discord. The group of respondents consisted of people older than 18 years. The results were processed into graphs and tables using Microsoft Office Word and Google Sheets. Results: Out of the total number of 56 respondents, 87.5 % of them had already heard about probiotics and a total of 80.4 % were able to define the term. Among the most common sources of information about probiotics was the internet with 42.9 %, followed by the doctors with 37.5 % and non-medical health personnel, which was mentioned by 30.4 % of respondents. Regarding the knowledge of the effects of probiotics - 71.4 % of respondents stated that they knew the effects of probiotics on the human organism and they were able to list them, 69.6 % of respondents knew about foods containing probiotics, 85.7 % of respondents had already heard about dietary supplements with probiotics and 46.4 % of respondents used them. Only 48.2 % of respondents knew what prebiotics are and 33.9 % knew in which foods to look for prebiotics. Conclusion: Overall, a large number of respondents demonstrated their knowledge of probiotics, and when compared to studies from previous years, we can observe significant differences in the public's awareness of probiotics. It is necessary to continue to deepen the knowledge of doctors and other healthcare workers about probiotics and the possibilities of their use and to continue to pass them on to patients.
