Ultrasound and Airflow at the work of dental hygienist

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na přístroje k odstranění zubního kamene, mikrobiálního plaku a pigmentů z povrchu zubů a novou metodu ošetření Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT). Jsem toho názoru, že znalost pracovního postupu, rozdělení a efektivnost použití jednotlivých typů koncovek, abrazivity a složení jednotlivých prášků je pro práci v tomto oboru nezbytná. Každá dentální hygienistka by také měla vědět, jaké následky může zapříčinit neznalost těchto informací. U všech popsaných přístrojů se dále zabývám indikacemi a kontraindikacemi ošetření, ale i bezpečnostními a hygienickými zásadami při práci. Cílem teoretické části práce je vytvořit přehled přístrojů pro strojové ošetření, účinností ultrazvukových koncovek, prášků do Airflow a blíže popsat, jaký vliv může mít jejich nesprávná manipulace na měkké a tvrdé tkáně dutiny ústní. Především bych chtěla poukázat na to, že návštěva dentální hygieny nemusí být pro pacienta jen nepříjemnou povinností, ale pomocí GBT se mění v bezbolestné, často i příjemné ošetření. Z tohoto důvodu bych touto prací ráda přiblížila tento jedinečný profylaktický postup jak zkušeným dentálním hygienistkám, tak i studentům tohoto oboru. V praktické části jsem prostřednictvím dotazníku hodnotila, s jakými typy přístrojů dentální hygienistky ve svých ordinacích pracují, jaké používají koncovky a prášky, a jaký druh ošetření preferují. V případě GBT jsem se zaměřila na to, co označují za největší přínos této metody v praxi, jak jsou s ní spokojené, a v jakých případech jim nejvíce usnadňuje práci.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with devices for removal of calculus, microbial plaque and pigments from tooth surface and a new method of treatment Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT). In my opinion, it is absolutely necessary for work in this field to reach exact knowledge of workflow, distribution and efficiency usage of individual types of ultrasonic tips, understanding abrasiveness as well as a composition of specific powders. Each dental hygienist should also know what consequences can cause ignorance of this information. For all the described devices, I also deal with the indications and contraindications of the treatment, as well as with safety and hygiene principles at work. The aim of the theoretical part of this thesis is to create an overview of devices for the power-driven instrumentation, the efficiency of the ultrasonic tips, the Airflow powders and to take a deeper look into effect of their incorrect manipulation on soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. First of all, I would like to point out that an appointment at dental hygiene does not have to be an unpleasant obligation for the patients, but with GBT it changes the process into painless, often pleasant treatment. For this reason, I would like to approach this unique prophylactic procedure to both experienced dental hygienists and students in this field. In the practical part, I used questionnaire to evaluate, what types of dental devices dental hygienists work in their surgeries with, how they use the tips and powders, and what methods of treatment they prefer. In the case of the GBT, I have focused on what they regard as the greatest benefit of this method in practice, how they are satisfied with this method, and in which cases it makes their work easier.
