Tato práce se zaměřuje obecně na fenomén street artu, jeho druhy a popisuje termíny užívané touto subkulturou. Jelikož street art zahrnuje velké množství druhů umění, druhá poloivna teoretické části se tak zaměřuje pouze na graffiti, jeho variace, jeho historii a terminologi a zejména pak na otázku, jestli a jak je propojeno s politickými a kulturními událostmi v americké historii.
