Petr Chudožilov, a writer and journalist between two cultures and languages

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to introduce the life and works of Petr Chudožilov, a writer and journalist, who emigrated with his family from Czechoslovakia to Switzerland in 1982. Nowadays Petr Chudožilov is famous for his fairy tales in the German-speaking world, however, in the Czech Republic and Slovakia he is rather known as a writer and journalist for adults. The beginning of the thesis is focused on the author´s life, and the terms such as "language change" or "home" are introduced, then it brings an overview and characteristics of his previous works. A significant part of the thesis is dedicated to an analysis of the storybook "Charlotte von Huglfing" that is his first book written in German and in which the theme "homesickness" appears. The final part of the thesis is focused on the terms for literature of writers who lived abroad and did not write in their native country. There we also find to what extent we can classify the literary works of Petr Chudožilov.

Abstract:

Die Bachelorarbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Leben und Schaffen des Schriftstellers und Journalisten Petr Chudožilov, der im Jahre 1982 mit seiner Frau und vier Kindern in die Schweiz emigrierte. Heute ist Petr Chudožilov in der deutschsprachigen Welt als Märchenautor bekannt, in der Tschechischen Republik und in der Slowakischen Republik eher als Journalist und Schriftsteller für Erwachsene. Der erste Teil legt das Leben und der Sprachwechsel von Petr Chudožilov sowie die Bedeutung von Heimat für den Schriftsteller dar. Der zweite Teil vermittelt einen Überblick über sein literarisches Schaffen. Der dritte Teil widmet sich dem Kinderbuch "Charlotte von Huglfing", weil es das erste Kinderbuch ist, das Petr Chudožilov selbst in deutscher Sprache verfasst hat und weil das Motiv vom Heimatverlust in diesem Buch vorkommt. Der letzte Teil der Arbeit erläutert die Begriffe "Migrantenliteratur", "Migrationsliteratur", "Exilliteratur", "Emigrantenliteratur" und "interkulturelle Literatur" und es wird die Frage aufgestellt, in wieweit sich das literarische Schaffen von Petr Chudožilov diesen Bezeichnungen zuordnen lässt.
