Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá mýty a legendami starověkých obyvatel Britských ostrovů, hlavními druhy jejich mýtů, smyslem existence mýtů a jak mýty ovlivňovali myšlení, chování a ducha těchto lidí. Popisuje společné mechanismy tvoření mýtů a porovnává tyto mechanismy s mechanismem tvorby současných příběhů a filmů s mýtickými prvky. Vysvětluje význam mýtů a jejich souvislost s náboženstvím a starověkými lidmi. Krátce také popisuje starověké obyvatele Britských ostrovů. Dále obsahuje analýzu mýtů, jejich společné rysy a způsob, jakým mýty vznikly a staly se neoddělitelnou a důležitou součástí lidského života. Práce obsahuje analýzu dvou hlavních mýtů, které vykazují podobné a klíčové prvky, jenž pomohly mýtům přežít staletí, a které mají významnou literární hodnotu i v moderní době. Součástí práce je i aplikace poznatků při tvorbě krátkého mýtického příběhu. Závěr práce se zaměřuje na rozdíly mezi starodávnými mýty a moderními mýty, důvod, proč tyto rozdíly vznikly a jaký to mělo dopad na původní mytologii. Porovnává podmínky, za kterých se mýty tvořily s podmínkami při tvorbě moderních mýtů ke zjištění důvodů, proč mýty vznikly a zda nové mýty vznikají na podobném základě, či zda je myšlení moderního člověka natolik odlišné, že není schopno vytvořit mýty národního, nebo dokonce mezinárodního významu a důležitosti.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the myths and legends of ancient peoples living in the British Isles, the main kinds of myths of the peoples as well as the purpose of the myths and how they influenced the mind, behaviour and spirit of the peoples. It describes the common mechanisms of forming myths and compares those mechanisms with the mechanism of creating myth-like stories and films in modern era. It explains the meaning of myths and the connection to religion and the ancient peoples. It also briefly describes the peoples who inhabited the British Isles. Then it deals with the analysis of myth, the common features and the way how myth emerged into the human world to become an inseparable and important part of people's lives. The thesis includes an analysis of two major myths which stress the similar and key elements which helped the myths survive through the times and which have a considerable literary value even in modern times, as well as an attempt to create a sample of a myth according to the mechanisms of myth creation. The end of the thesis focuses on the differences between the old-time myths and those of the modern world, why these differences took place and what they have done to the original mythology. It compares the conditions under which the myths were formed to the conditions of modern times in order to find out what the reason for their creation was and if the process of myth creation still continues or the mind of modern people is so different that it is incapable of creating myths of nationwide, or even international importance and recognition.
