Manipulation in Romantic Relationships, Part 2: Case Study of a Manipulated Man

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce navazuje na mou práci bakalářskou a rovněž se zabývá problematikou psychické manipulace v partnerském vztahu. Diplomová práce téma dále rozvíjí, mapuje proces rozvoje psychické manipulace v rámci partnerského vztahu a zabývá se charakteristikou osobnosti psychického manipulátora. Podrobněji se věnuje projevům a strategiím, které manipulátor v partnerském vztahu využívá, stejně jako vlastnostem a projevům manipulovaného a poukazuje na možné důsledky psychické manipulace pro její oběť. Uvádí širší výčet obranných strategií a technik, jak se manipulaci co nejúčinněji bránit. Kvalitativní výzkum, je opět založen na jednopřípadové osobnostní studii, předmětem zkoumání je však tentokrát manipulovaný muž. Výzkum staví na datech získaných sérií polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Analýza těchto rozhovorů by měla pomoci osvětlit proces rozvoje manipulace v tomto konkrétním partnerském vztahu, kde manipulátorkou je žena, zatímco muž je zde obětí. Práce se snaží poukázat na destruktivní následky, které psychická manipulace v partnerském vztahu ve svých rozmanitých podobách své oběti nevyhnutelně přináší.

Abstract:

This master´s thesis is a continuation of my bachelor´s thesis as it also deals with psychological manipulation within a romantic relationship. The master´s thesis develops the topic further, it maps the process of development of psychological manipulation within a romantic relationship and describes personality traits and charakteristics of the manipulator. It deals with the behaviour and strategies that a manipulator typically uses in more detail, and it further explains characteristics and behaviour of the manipulated party. It points out possible negative consequences of psychological manipulation for its victim and also gives examples of effective strategies and techniques that can be used to confront and cope with the above. Qualitative research is based on a single-case personality study, however, this time the subject of the investigation is a manipulated man. The research uses data from a series of halfstructured interviews. The analysis of these interviews aims to shed light on the progression of manipulation in this specific relationship where the manipulator is a female while the male is in the role of a victim. The thesis highlights possible descructive consequences, which psychological manipulation in its diverse forms inevitably inflicts upon the manipulated victim.
