Institutional foundation of athenian democracy

Abstract:

Ústředním tématem této práce jsou základní politické instituce starověkých Athén. Práce nejprve analyzuje Kleisthénovu a Solónovu reformu, jakožto události, které zásadně ovlivnily budoucí vývoj Athénské demokracie. Dále se zabývá jednotlivými orgány státní správy a zkoumá nakolik a v čem přesně tyto instituce reflektovaly demokratickou ideologii. Práce se ovšem zabývá i divadlem, poněvadž i divadlo bylo určitým způsobem politickou institucí. Tato kapitola je strukturována do dvou částí, přičemž jedna zkoumá politickou organizaci divadla a druhá politickou symboliku samotných her. Závěr se obecně věnuje ostatním formám politického sdružování.

Abstract:

The main theme of the thesis are the fundamental political institutions of ancient Athens. Firstly, the thesis analyses Kleisthénes´ and Solón´s reform as events that significantly influenced the future development of Athenian democracy. Further, the thesis examines the individual governmental bodies, and it investigates the level and manner in which these institutions reflected the democratic ideology. The thesis includes theater as well, because theater was in a way a political institution. This chapter is divided into two parts, whilst one examines the political organization of the theater, and the other examines the political symbolism of the plays themselves. The conclusion talks generally about other forms of political gatherings.
