Development of the capital city Prague and the possibilities of utilization of brownfields

Abstract:

Hlavní město Praha se v poslední době potýká se dvěma zásadními problémy. Prvním je expanze území do volné krajiny, díky rostoucí suburbanizaci. Druhým je existence brownfieldů, které mají negativní vliv na okolí. Tato práce se zabývá myšlenkou, že revitalizace brownfieldů v jádru Prahy, a jejich opětovné využívání, by mohla být protipólem k suburburbanizaci a rozrůstajícímu se zázemí Prahy. Cílem této práce je tedy ověřit, jestli revitalizace brownfieldů je potenciální cesta, jak zastavit či zmírnit expanzi hlavního města. Práce je založena na teoretickém výzkumu, konkrétně na analýze dokumentů a případové studii, která zkoumá strategický plán, územní plán, ÚAP hlavního města Prahy a NSRB 2024. Dále jsou porovnány strategické plány Prahy a vybraných krajských měst, zároveň jsou porovnána data, která obsahuje Národní databáze brownfieldů. Z provedeného výzkumu vyplývá, že prozatím není možné tuto myšlenku potvrdit či vyvrátit, jelikož revitalizace brownfieldů v Praze je poměrně čerstvou záležitostí a v současné době není dostatek dat na základě kterých by bylo možné určit jasné stanovisko. Na druhou stranu lze konstatovat, že strategické dokumenty Prahy, Plzně, Ústí nad Labem i NSRB 2024 zmiňují stejnou myšlenku tedy, že revitalizace brownfieldů by mohla zvrátit expanzi měst za své hranice.

Abstract:

The capital city of Prague has recently faced two essential problems. The first is the expansion of Prague to the surrounding landscape, thanks to the growing suburbanization. The second is the existence of brownfields which have a negative impact for the surrounding. This thesis deals with the idea that the revitalization of brownfields in the center of Prague city and their reuse. Because it could be an antipole of suburbanization and the growing hinterland of Prague. This thesis aims to verify whether the revitalization of brownfields is a potential way to stop or mitigate the expansion of the capital city. The thesis is based on theoretical research specifically on documents analysis and a case study that examines the strategic plan, the spatial plan, and the local analytical plans of the capital city of Prague and the National strategy of brownfield´s revitalization 2024. It also compares the strategic plans of Prague and the selected country towns. Moreover, it compares the data contained in the National database of brownfields. The research performs that it has not been possible to confirm or disprove this idea. It is because the revitalization of brownfields is quite a recent matter and currently there are not enough data to determine a clear statement. On the other hand, it is possible to state that strategics documents of Prague, Pilsen, and Usti nad Labem, furthermore National strategy of brownfield´s revitalization 2024 mention the same idea, that the revitalization of brownfields could reverse the expansion of cities beyond their borders.
