From an Outcast to a Hero. A protagonists' journey towards the power and the control in George R. R. Martin's saga "A song of Ice and Fire."

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis studies the journey of the two heroes from the saga "A song of Ice and Fire" written by George R.R. Martin, namely the journey of Jon Snow and the journey of Daenerys Targaryen. The development of the Jon Snow's quest is examined according to the Campbell's paradigm and the development of the heroine's quest is examined according to the paradigm related to the female heroines by Maureen Murdoch and Valerie Estelle Frankel. The thesis compares the individual features the author used while creating the story, which later caused the establishment of a wide audience lively discussing the aspects appearing in this works and therefore contributed to the creation of a hyper-real overlap of the work.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce mapuje cesty dvou hlavních hrdinů ze ságy "Píseň ledu a ohně" George R. R. Martina, jmenovitě cestu Jona Snowa a Daenerys Targaryen, v případě hrdiny na základě paradigmatu Josepha Campella a v případě hrdinky na základě tohoto paradigmatu vztaženého na ženské postavy podle modelu Maureen Murdoch, přepracovaného Valerií Estelle Frankel. Práce analyzuje nejenom cesty hrdinů, nýbrž i dílo jako celek, zejména poukazuje na motivy, které autor vyzdvihuje, a jak s nimi pracuje. Práce porovnává jednotlivé prvky, které autor v příběhu používá, jež jsou později příčinou vzniku širokého publika živě diskutujícího o jednotlivých aspektech objevujících se v tomto díle, a tudíž přispívají k vytvoření nad-reálného přesahu díla.
