Russian Foreign Policy Tools to Enforce National Interests in Russian-Georgian Armed Conflict

Abstract:

V roce 2008 se odehrála Rusko – gruzínská válka, kterou vyvrcholila složitá politická i bezpečnostní situace ohledně semi – autonomních částí Gruzie, tedy Abcházie a Jižní Osetie. Konflikt by se v množství událostí ve světě mohl zdát jako marginální záležitostí, ale není tomu tak. Přímý vpád ruských vojsk na území suverénní Gruzie ukázal světu kam až je schopna Ruská federace zajít při prosazování svých národních zájmů. Národní zájmy v zahraniční politice Ruské federace zaujímají výjimečné místo a jsou pravidelnou součástí oficiálních strategických dokumentů federace a i projevů jejich politických představitelů. V této práci se zaměřuji na nástroje kterými dochází k prosazování národních zájmů Ruské federace a dále tím, jak jsou jednotlivé nástroje vnímány a interpretovány oběma stranami konfliktu v kontextu tehdejšího dění.

Abstract:

In 2008 the Georgian-Russian war took place and through it a complicated political and safety situation culminated that dealt with semi-autonomous parts of Georgia, Abkhazia and Southern Ossetia . This conflict could be considered marginal in the great amount of events all around the world but this view would be wrong. The direct invasion of Russian troops to the area of sovereign Georgia showed the world how far the Russian Federation is able to go when promoting its national interests. National interests play a special role in the foreign policy of the Russian Federation and they are a regular part of official strategic documents of the Federation as well as of speeches of its political figures. In this thesis I deal with the tools with which the national interests of the Russian Federation are promoted, and with how the individual tools are perceived and interpreted by both of the sides of the conflict in the context of the events of the time.
