Relationship between emotional intelligence, well-being and selected variables of paramedical staff

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem emoční inteligence, osobní pohody a vybraných proměnných u nelékařských zdravotnických pracovníků. Cílem diplomové práce bylo konkrétně zjistit souvislost emoční inteligence a životní spokojenosti nelékařských zdravotnických pracovníků a identifikovat statisticky významné rozdíly v úrovni emoční inteligence s ohledem na vybrané sociodemografické znaky – věk, délka praxe a vzdělání. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 213 respondentů, z toho 147 nelékařských zdravotnických pracovníků a 66 vysokoškolských studentů ošetřovatelských oborů ve věku 19 až 60 let (m=35,06; sd=13,15), přičemž většinu tvořily ženy (94,6 %). V empirické části byl použit český překlad metody Test Inteligencji Emocjonalnej (TIE), měřící emoční inteligenci jako schopnost a Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), škála životní spokojenosti. Analýza testu potvrdila uspokojivý koeficient reliability metody TIE (0,89) i škály SWLS (0,82). Analýza vztahů zjistila slabý pozitivní vztah mezi životní spokojeností a úrovní Facilitace u pracujících zdravotníků. Dále se ukázalo, že u zdravotnických pracovníků nad 50 let dochází k poklesu emoční inteligence v oblastech Vnímání, Facilitace a Řízení. Zároveň emoční inteligence studentů se ukázala jako vyšší než emoční inteligence pracujících stejného věku. Z analýzy dále plyne, že pracovníci s vysokoškolským vzděláním mají vyšší úroveň emoční inteligence v oblasti Vnímání než je tomu u pracovníků se středoškolským vzděláním. Výsledky také poukázaly na pokles emoční inteligence v oblasti Facilitace u zdravotnických pracovníků s praxí v ošetřovatelství nad 20 let.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the relationship between emotional intelligence, well-being and selected variables of paramedical staff. The aim of the thesis was to identify specific relationship of emotional intelligence and life satisfaction of paramedical staff and identify statistically significant differences in the level of emotional intelligence with respect to selected sociodemographic characteristics – age, length of service and education level. The research sample consisted of 213 respondents, of which 147 paramedical staff and 66 undergraduate students of nursing in age between 19 and 60 years (m=35.06; sd=13.15), while the majority were women (94.6%). In the empirical part the Czech translation of the method Test Inteligencji Emocjonalnej (TIE) was used, measuring emotional intelligence as the ability and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). The test analysis confirmed satisfactory reliability coefficient of TIE (0.89) and SWLS (0.82). Analysis of relationships found a weak positive relationship between life satisfaction and Facilitation level of working health professionals. Furthermore, it appears that there is a decrease of emotional intelligence in the areas of Perception, Facilitation and Management among health professionals older than 50 years. At the same time emotional intelligence of students proved to be higher than emotional intelligence of working paramedical staff of the same age. The analysis also shows that paramedical staff with higher education has higher level of emotional intelligence in the area of Perception than staff with secondary education. Results also showed a decrease in emotional intelligence in the area of Facilitation among health professionals with experience in nursing longer than 20 years.
