System Information Gathering across Several Sysplexes under z/OS

Abstract:

V teoretické části práce představí mainframe a operační system z/OS. Co je to mainframe, k čemu je používám, jeho výhody, nevýhody a historie. Dále je popsán hardware a potřebné periferie mainframe. Navazující čst je zaměřená na operační systém s/OS, jeho základní koncept a součásti. Následně práce ve stručnosti vysvětlí skriptovací jazyk JCL (Job Control Language) a programovací jazyk REXX (Restructured Extended Executor), které byly použity k vytvoření programu popsaném v praktické části. Programovací část práce nastíní požadavky pro vytvoření programu k získávání informací o systémovém nastavení z více systémů současně. Následující oddíl vysvětlí, jak byl program vytvořen, jeho funkcionalitu včetně komentářů k částem kódu a problémy při programování vzhledem k různým přístupům k řešení. Na konci programová část ukazuje, jak používat a upravovat výsledný program.

Abstract:

The thesis will introduce mainframe and operating system z/OS in its theoretical part. First, what a mainframe is, what it is used for, its advantages, disadvantages, and its history. Then, the hardware of a mainframe and its necessary peripherals will be described. The next part is focused on mainframe operating system z/OS, its fundamental concept and components. Subsequently, the thesis will briefly explain the JCL scripting language (Job Control Language) and REXX programming language (Restructured Extended Executor) that were used to develop the utility described in the implementation part of the thesis. The programming part will initially outline requirements for developing the utility for gathering system information across several Sysplexes. The following section will explain how the utility was implemented, its functionality including comments to particular code segments and all issues encountered with different approaches. At the end, the programming part shows how to use and/or modify the utility.
