The differences in personal and incentive structure of tourist guides and information technology employees

Abstract:

V textu této práce zkoumáme a pokoušíme se nalézt rozdíly v osobnostních a motivačních charakteristikách lidí vykonávajících dvě různé profese – průvodcovskou činnost a informační technologie. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 57 probandů (43 mužů a 14 žen) z toho 28 zaměstnaných v IT (26 mužů a 2 ženy), 24 turistických průvodců (12 mužů a 12 žen) a 5 vykonávajících obě profese (5 mužů a 0 žen). Pro splnění cíle výzkumu jsme použili Bochumský osobnostní dotazník (BIP) převedený do elektronické podoby. Většina škál BIP vychází z Big Five a McClellandovy teorie potřeb. Zaměřili jsme se na rozdíly ve vůdcovství, sociálních kompetencích a svědomitosti. Výsledný rozdíl ve vůdcovství se nám signifikantně potvrdil na škálách, které zmíněnou charakteristiku reprezentují. Pro potvrzení statisticky významného rozdílu v oblasti sociálních kompetencí a svědomitosti bychom potřebovali několikanásobně vyšší počet respondentů. V diskuzi zmiňujeme možné úpravy a nedostatky metody. Pro budoucí výzkum navrhujeme oslovit lidi vykonávající jiné profese, například učitele, kde jsme identifikovali znaky, které nám mohou pomoci lépe interpretovat získané výsledky.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on investigation of differences in personal and motivational characteristics between persons with two different professions – tourists guides and information technology employees. The total amount of respondents was 57 (43 men and 14 women), 28 respondents (26 men, 2 women) work in information technology, 24 respondents (12 men, 12 women) work as tourist guides and 5 respondents (5 men, 0 women) are employed in both fields. The electronic form of Bochum Personality Questionnaire (BIP) was used to achieve the goal of the research. Most of the BIP scales are based on Big Five and McClelland’s Theory of Needs. The research was aimed at the differences in leadership, social competences and conscientiousness. The resulting significant difference in leadership was confirmed on the scale representing the mentioned characteristic. Multiple amount of respondents would be necessary for the confirmation of significant difference in the social competences and conscientiousness field. The discussion includes possible adjustments and imperfections of the method. For future research it is suggested to address persons with different proffesions for example teachers who were characterised with features useful for interpretation of the results.
