Foreign policy of the USA towards China since the 1970s

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o vývoji americko-čínských obchodně-ekonomických vztahů od 70. let 20. století do současnosti. Zabývám se v ní rostoucím bilaterálním obchodem Spojených států a Čínské lidové republiky, tedy hodnotami vzájemného exportu a importu, obchodní bilancí i obchodním deficitem, společně s rostoucími hodnotami čínského HDP, na kterých dokazuji rostoucí ekonomický význam Číny pro Spojené státy. V práci tak můžeme pozorovat transformaci Číny z původně amerického strategického partnera do podoby partnera obchodního. Práce pokrývá období celkem osmi amerických prezidentů, kteří sice přistupovali k Číně rozdílnými způsoby, avšak vždy pragmaticky, neboť v pozitivním vývoji vzájemných vztahů spatřovali americký národní zájem.

Abstract:

My Bachelor thesis deals with the development of U.S.-China business relations since the 1970s. The development is described by bilateral import, export trends and statistics together with trade balance. The time period covers the administrations of eight American presidents. No matter if they were the Republicans or the Democrats, they all finally exercised pragmatic approaches towards China to ensure the best outcome for American interests despite many preceding political disputes concerning U.S.-China relations. The growth of Chinese economic power is proved by the annual Chinese growth of GDP. It also shows how China has became the country of great importance to The United states. Throughout my essay it is seen the Chinese transformation from American strategic partner to the economic one as well as the increasing mutual interdependence.
