Beaty and Savagery in Wordsworth's poetry : Close reading of the Lucy poems

Abstract:

Cílem téhle práce je poskytnout podrobnou analýzu Lucy poems přičemž se nejvíc zaměřuje na umístění v času a prostoru a taky tónu v jakém jsou jednotlivé básně napsány. Za předpokladu, že Wordsworth manipuluje čtenáře pomocí postavy vypravěče nebo za pomoci specifického umístění své básně a tomu odpovídajícího tónu, se tahle práce snaží poukázat na rozdílné a taky podobné črty. Taky se zabývá využitím literárních nástrojů jako jsou schéma rýmu, střídání přízvučných a nepřízvučnźch slabik a taky symbolů. Na základě provedené analýzy jsme dospěli k závěru, že právě tón a umístění Lucy poems hrají jednu z nejdůležitějších rolí ve vněmu čtenáře.

Abstract:

The purpose of this thesis is to provide close reading of the Lucy poems, focusing in particular on the setting and mood of each individual poem. Assuming that Wordsworth manipulates the reader of his poems through the person(s) of narrator, peculiar and evolving setting and intensely corresponding mood, the questions of the importance of setting and mood, and their similarities and differences within the five poems of the Lucy cycle will be focused on, while also commenting on the usage of literary devices such as rhyme scheme, metre and symbols. Based on the conducted analysis of the Lucy poems, it is predominantly the literary devices of setting and mood that are used extensively to affect reader’s perception of the flow of the poems.
